If the Government was serious about backing down on its unacceptable higher education changes, it would withdraw its failed legislation.

Young people in rural and regional Australia will take no joy from the Coalition Government’s announcement that it will “defer” its attack on regional universities.

The plans to charge students $100,000 for a degree, cut funding by 20%, and further privatise the university sector will hit hardest in rural and regional Australia, particularly those which have a higher number of mature aged students.

The new Minister has made it clear that he is sticking with the “principles” of Tony Abbott’s plan.

It’s time to scrap this whole plan, not defer it.
