The Senate Education and Employment References Committee will convene today in Melbourne to determine why it has been necessary for the Victorian Government to take such strong action to restore confidence and integrity to the vocational education and training (VET) sector.
The committee will hear evidence from:
· Australian Education Union
· Consumer Action Law Centre
· Careers Australia
· Andrew Norton, Higher Education Program Director, Grattan Institute
· University of Melbourne Graduate School of Education
· Victorian Government
The committee will explore the operation, regulation and funding of the private vocational education and training (VET) sector.
Labor is concerned that current arrangements for the regulation and quality assurance of the VET system are not fit for purpose.
